Bandung Faces Clean Water Crisis

Bericht door manis » za mar 22, 2014 5:45 pm

Bandung and its neighboring areas are now under threat of clean water crisis due to the rampant construction of buildings in the northern part of the city.

Consequently, those buildings have made rainwater dumped into the river. "Previously, the land absorbed the rainwater," said President Director of the city water tap company, (PDAM) Tirtawening, Bandung, Pian Sopian, Friday.
Pian said that most of drinking water supply is taken from northern Bandung. Another source of water, he said, is taken from an underground well with the depth of 100 meter and located in the city of Bandung. However, Pian said that supply of the water is not really high.

The limited water has forced PDAM to carry out water rationing to its customers. "We cannot use the water pump to get underground water for 24 hours. We can only do so for 16 hours a day," he said.

In January, water shortage led to rallies staged by Bandung residents in front of the Bandung Legislative Council (DPRD). "I hope the city government will be more selective in giving permits to building constructions in northern Bandung," he said.
