How to handle negative reviews

It is every small and medium business owner’s worst nightmare: a negative and scathing online review. Especially for those in service industries, one-star reviews on Google Places, Yelp, and other review sites can deter hundreds of potential customers. Handling these harsh reviews properly can mitigate the damage—and even let potential clients know that you are an attentive and caring business owner, despite what the review says.

Before addressing a negative review, it is important to see it not as a strike on your reputation, but as an opportunity to show even your most upset customer that you really care about their business and satisfaction. Your goal should not be to convince the customer to remove their review, but to show readers of the review that you take customer service seriously and are willing to work with even the most upset customers.
